John
originally built the recording studio to record his song demos.
However, over the years he has developed into a multi hit
producer/engineer/songwriter. Berry Hill Recording Studio client list
includes names like Mark Knopfler, Robert Plant, Dave Edmunds, Shakin'
Stevens, the BBC, ITV, Artista, Zomba, EMI, Sire to name but a few.
John has also produced many up and coming bands for major and indie
labels alike and has recorded all styles of music from classical to
punk. He has also written, produced or engineered for all the above as
well as Robert Palmer, Cliff Richard, Status Quo, Alvin Stardust,
Samantha Fox, Little Richard and more. His songs have been recorded by
over 200 artists worldwide. As a musician John has performed with many
of the above as well as Springsteen, Clapton, Sting, Bryan Adams,
George Harrison, Ringo Starr and many others.
John's
career began at the age of 14 playing drums in his fathers big band,
but at the age of 20 he changed to bass guitar, and with
singer/guitarist Dave Edmunds formed the group Love Sculpture, and soon
had their first big hit with "Sabre Dance" which reached the # 2 spot
in the charts. This was followed a few years later with the massive
worldwide hit "I hear you knocking". Since then he has had several
parallel careers; as a session bass player, recording and performing
around the world with name acts, as a solo performer with United Artist
and Albion Records, as a producer working for majors and indies with
groups like The Expressos, The Barracudas, The Stiffs, and many more as
well as independently finding and developing promising new acts for
major labels, as a member of the Rockfield studio band Airwaves which
had a mega deal with A&M records and chalked up 2 top 100
albums in
the USA, and above all, as a songwriter.
As
well as all these other activities, in 2005 John was appointed MD of
the Javelin Records group. Although this new position takes up a big
chunk of his time, he still personally engineers everything that is
recorded here at Berry Hill Recording Studio, whether it's a new young
local band, or a
name act. He is currently working once again with Shakin' Stevens, Dave Edmunds and
Status Quo, as well as new signings to Javelin Records.
